Our school

Doomadgee State School is located within Far North West Queensland, a short one hour’s air travel from Mount Isa and is nestled in the pristine wilderness of native title land. The school provides the essential service of Education to the 1200 strong community, predominantly made up of Gangalidda, Garrawa and Waanyi first peoples of Australia.

The school has a long tradition of positive outcomes since its establishment in the early 1970’s, and is establishing itself with the Doomadgee as a place of supported teaching and learning within our community’s cultural context. As a school we consider it an honour and a privilege to serve our community and provide a curriculum tailored to the individual that allows all students to reach their own individual potential.

Throughout 2014 onwards we are building four strong foundations for our schools future, these include:

  • Literacy and Numeracy - Improving student outcomes in all aspects of Literacy and Numeracy – with a particular focus on reading, data driven instruction, and consistency of practise across the school.
  • Student Attendance and Community Engagement – Building a highly engaged student population, supported by community and school attendance officers.
  • Organisational outcomes – Improvements in student outcomes, through the development of a highly organised and productive school environment.
  • Creation of a positive school and community culture – Linking traditional Lore and Cultural learning with authentic and positive social skill development.
